Obligatory Update

Hello, my legions of fans (like, all 10 or 15 of you), sorry it's been so long since I've dropped in. I have a confession to make: I love playing music more than anything, but I HATE promoting it. It's nothing but a headache to me. I would happily give a percentage of my nearly non-existent income to a manager to do all this bullshit for me.

Anyway:
-Show at Wasted Dream (431 Kenyon St NW DC) on 4/12 with Timesshares, Spraynard, Gio Safari, The Deads and the Harrison Four. Stoked for this!
-Writing material for my next full-length. Totally different. It's slow and subtle and even has pretty melodies. 'Cuz, you know, I'm getting old and stuff (I turn 27 in 2 months. Fuck!). It sounds like some shit my parents would listen to. It scares me.
-PS I hate this website. But I'm payed up on the server/domain for the rest of the year so whatever.

Smell ya later,
Jamz

Getting ready to TOUR

In early 2012, I will finally fulfill a lifelong dream by going on a complete North American tour. After more failed attempts than I can count with past bands, I decided to stop waiting on other musicians who, unlike me, have grown-up mature person commitments like jobs and educations and just do it myself. Booking is in progress. 6 gigs a week for 8 weeks, starting on February 1st.

If you have a buck or two to spare, I've set up a Kickstarter account to raise money for a vehicle rental for this trip. Normally I'm not comfortable asking for help, but it's been a very rough year financially--car got totaled, lost job, maxed out credit card to make the new EP, and some hospital bills are threatening to ruin my credit for good. So any help you can give to help me pull this off means a whole hell of a lot.

Thanks so much! Stoked!

The Latest...

The fine folks at The Spitting Image in Brooklyn are re-designing this site as we speak and it's gonna be rad. We are also in talks about some video projects. Stoked!

I have begun recording my next record. It's a 6-song EP called James Haitchwai Is Dead. It will be out and about by summer's end.

In other news, I have completely and totally lost my mind.

If I was half as good at music as I am at complaining...

Totally new site design coming soon! About time! By soon I mean whenever I'm not BROKE which means not soon at all. whatev.
While I'm comin' Straight Outta LoCash, hey does anybody want to record some demos for me pro bono? 7 or 8 new jams that totally wipe the floor with anything I've done before. Seriously. I promise the recordings will be quick and painless (for me, not necesarily for the listener) because I never have the patience to do more than one take of anything.
I'm also now playing bass with my good friends Surgery Dot Com. For fans of noisy yet catchy 80's/90's style indie/post-punk and Fang covers.
Oh, did I mention I'm BROKE? If any fat cat cigar smoking secretary harrassing 3rd world country exploiting underground music co-opting unscrupulous scum of the earth record label, management, booking, publicity, corporate whore rock star sellout making motherfucker type people out there want to pay off my thousands of dollars of debt, buy me a working guitar amp, distribute and promote my music to multitudes of adoring fans, lift me out of poverty and relieve me of any and all need to borrow money from my parents, pawn stuff, or work for a living ever again, that would fukkin rule.

Bring some dough for the touring bands and have a blast!

CODE has been unleashed!

FINALLY! Nearly 2 years after I recorded it, my 5th album has officially dropped. Why'd it take so long, you ask? Money trouble, off-and-on homelessness, distracting myself with other bands, nervous breakdowns, permanently damaged vocal cords, money trouble...money trouble...Until the other day a friend of mine suggested I use Bandcamp.com and then I could upload it for free and save myself thousands in pressing costs. so yeah! go here: www.jameshaitchwai.bandcamp.com and download this motherfucker. Artwork included! cool thanx

okay, fuck hiatus

srry for the false alarm. I gotta get back. shows please!
Monday, December 14, 2009

announcement

I am more or less on hiatus right now. I may play occasional gigs but I'm mostly out of the loop at this point. I guess a combination of a) writing/playing/gigging/recording on a near-constant basis for 10 straight years and b) the competitiveness, narcissism and superficiality (especially my own) of "the biz" has got me feeling very burnt out, to the point of feeling less than inspired. so I decided to step back from it before it could ruin music completely for me. for now I'll be delving into other interests that I've been putting off for awhile now because I was too busy with music. I'm not quitting altogether, just getting re-juiced. I'll be back when I'm feeling the itch to play again. thanks for bearing with me. -JMH

crazyness

hello friends,
here's what's been goin' down:
*Live In Baltimore EP is out now! and it's pretty brutal.
*We are doing a little bit of remixing/mastering of the One Day, Vegetable Oil Will Cure Cancer EP, this should be complete very soon.
*I finished the book/zine/whateverthefuckitis but I'm not sure I wanna release it anymore,,,because it's kinda, hmm, how shall I put this, Self-indulgent. But if you want to read all about what a crazy unglued time I had making these records, let me know. If enough of you express interest, I'll reconsider.
*I'm working on my next album. It's called CODE and I'm really stoked about it. Got about 8 or 9 songs written for it.
*Will still be playing so-low shows, but not as many as I used to. Only when the occasion feels right, and only in intimate, DIY-leaning settings. This means no BARS, ever again. They make me feel like I'm in a beer commercial. It's degrading.
*Sign up for Haitchmail!, the mailing list. Go to the Contact section to find out how.
with love,
James

all new!!

check it out, new improved and spiffier than ever, hope you guys dig the new site design. it's been hectic lately and there's no signs of it slowing down anytime soon. I moved back to the hometown, DC. my bass bashin, mic thrashin main man Rashad and I are starting a punk-as-fuck band and, uhh, it's gonna own. One Day Vegetable Oil Will Cure Cancer and the Live In Baltimore EP are both headed to the pressing plant and will be available by year's end. a 2-disc collection of outtakes and demos will be available even sooner and will only cost $3! Also, I am putting together a book in the style of countless pre-internet sketchyass xerox-and-staple zines, it's called Free To Fail. it's a history of the whole 2-year period that all this music was created in. if anyone has flyers, pics, anecdotes, harsh criticisms, or anything else to contribute, that would be awesome, send them this way! thanks for stopping by, don't stop the rock love, JMH
